How to buy custom knives

Thank you severtecher ✌️ It will be my main goal to make it to one of the big ones. Anyone care to put their hat in the ring? Favorite Custom maker or knife?

I appreciate gpknives! I do get to see some cool stuff from their shop 😃 Any idea if the shows mentioned have nationwide makers? Is it a local thing?
The ABS/Guild show in KC in September is not only national but is an international show. The Gateway show in STL is more of a local thing, but some makers & dealers travel come in from other states.

The Little Rock Show has a lot of locals but also draws some national and even one or two internationals.

Definitely check out your local shows and travel to a few shows if you can, make friends with the makers! So important, they are very nice folks who love to talk about their art and what all goes into making their knives. Sign up for their email list, chances are if they don't have something you like at the moment, they might have something you are interested later.

Get familiar with all of the custom knife websites and if you don't already have one... create an instagram and account, almost all of the custom makers are on Instagram and post their latest stuff way before it makes it to their websites. Sometimes they even show work in progress (which is way cool). This way you get the visual first and have an idea of what to look for if your favorite maker is at a local show.

Most custom stuff you can flip or "catch and release" if you don't like it. Don't mod it, don't scratch it, don't sharpen it. IF you're not happy with it, put it up on the exchange ASAP and you should be able to get close to if not all of what you paid for it.

As far as Favorites go, I love my Direware Solo & Hyper 90, YUNA, Thorburn and my John W Smith knives. On my list of gets are a Kirby Lambert, a John W Smith TAD Dauntless and a Carbon Fiber Todd Begg Bodega.... Too many more to list Lol

Best of luck!

figure out what you REALLY like, and why? buy DIRECT from knife makers whenever possible, though some refuse to deal direct. if you get into DAMASCUS BLADES, also figure out WHAT You really like, and why. frequent various sources regularly, and do different searches. bf's and ebuy are good start-off points. so are some of the better known internet knife dealers. do NOT be afraid to "source the world"!! jzs
