How to carry a 4'' trapper?

I dunno. I can feel a large knife as I am walking if it is lying horizontal in my pocket . Personal preference: I don't care for it.

If I am carrying a knife over 4" I usually carry it in my back pocket with a handkerchief to keep it vertical.

Personal choice indeed. I like the bandana idea for back pocket carry( I will have to try it). I guess my pockets would be considered baggy on most of my clothes outside of jeans. Not ever thinking about it before but my pocket knives always lay horizontal. Doubt I could ever get one to stay upright in my front pocket and it doesnt bother me. Then again I have not ventured past the 4" mark either. If I was to carry a sheath on my belt for a knife it would be a fixed blade, dont really see a point for my uses to carry a folding knife on a belt.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I carry mine right next to my wallet. Positioned this way I can barely tell it's there. The knife pictured is a GEC Scout, so it's a good-sized knife.

I usually don't have a need to carry that size knife unless I'm wearing jeans our outdoors gear. I don't mind keeping in my front pocket sideways in slacks, but when I do carry them in work clothes, I do the wallet trick

Make something like this? It's not that difficult, and it keeps a full-sized trapper and a mini flashlight easy to grab.

My Dickies shorts have a utility pocket on the right side thigh. I used my sewing machine to turn into 2 vertical pockets: perfect for my Buck 110 in one and my reading glasses in the other.

In my hiking shorts, I carry my 486 horizontally in cargo pocket on the shorts. But, that is a very light and thin knive, despite it's size.

When wearing jeans, I just pocket carry my 110 in the RFP. My manly thighs are totally ripped and look like a bag of snakes and that is enough to keep the knife riding upright. (ahem) More seriously... I find having a knife with rounded/melted bolsters, a tight belt and baggy pants makes it possible to pocket carry a large, heavy knife comfortably. I took a file to my 110's bolsters and it carries just fine.

For me, anything over 3.75" is carried in a sheath which I make myself. Pros - quick access, protects finish, comfortable, more room in pockets for other stuff, pants last longer and look better, I get to make a sheath. Cons - I can't think of any.

Cons - I can't think of any.

I always end up pocket carrying my big knives instead of in a holster. Here's why...

Most importantly I spend too much time in a car seat or in a desk chair. It's my life and this part of it sucks, but it's paying the bills. Carrying any holster of any sort on my hip or behind my hip just doesn't work for me. The only type of holster I can deal with is a horizontal holster carried in the front.

Second, I can only deal with a single horizontal holster on my left side. Any time I try to carry a horizontal holster on the right side, when I undo my belt to go to the john, the weight of the holster pulls my belt out of the loop and the holster lands on the floor next to the hopper (if I'm lucky). I don't have that problem with a holster on the left front as my belt buckle holds it in place.

Third, my cell phone needs to be on my belt. That means that the single position I can carry a knife on a holster is already taken. Yah, I hate life when life means that a cell phone is glued to my hip, but that's the reality.

I regularly pocket carry my 110, per above. More than one way to skin the cat, so to speak.

There is a good guy call Ron
He makes pocket sheaths
He has one called "Blues" from Elliott's idea

It is a flat backpocket sheath sewn in the middle so the knife is vertical in your back pocket and is held by the softer leather

I have a couple and they are very good and comfortable
I haveused then for single bladed 4", but have not tried a 4" double blade
It will be bulkier in the pocket

I carry my 4" knives in a $4 leather belt sheath, and it works very well indeed

I use a small safety pin to make a vertical divider in my right front pocket. It works really well and none have come undone in the wash.

I've got a leather rag I put in my pocket if I carry a 4" or
bigger EDC. It's not very big and keeps the knife from moving around and
I use it to wipe blade after using it. Works like a champ....imho
