how to carry a custom slipjoint?

I've been thinking about buying a leather pocket pouch from either Ron Ryder or AG Russell for the Cannittler. Not quite a custom, but not cheap either.

I recently bought a Spyderco Kiwi with the MOP/abalone scales. I can't bring myself to let it bang up against my money clip or some change. Thank God it came in a neat little suede pouch. It's perfect for a small knife and it keeps it vertical in my front pocket.

Naked in an otherwise empty pocket. While I will carry my Bailey Bradshaw interframe folder (not a slippie) in the slip pouch that Bailey provided, I like to be able to just pull my knife out of my pocket and use it -- having to undress it first seems unnatural.

That's the very reason I had Ron Ryder make those leather pocket protectors for me.

They keep the knife from wearing through the pants pocket, keep the knife vertical and allow me to retrieve the knife directly without having to fumble with a pouch. (The protector stays in the pocket.)

thank you very much for your replies! i think i have to get one of those pocket protectors blues recommends. i don't want the knife to wear through the pocket and disappear. a pouch seems to be, well, a somewhat delicate object, i wasn't aware of that, but will consider it in case i should spend my holidays in the US :)

best regards,
hans

I have an australian friend who has a belt with a built in vertical sheath. I would be interested in locating one. The nice thing about his is it could hold a knife as big as a medium stockman but is barely noticeable on the belt.

Wudmne, I think Cabelas sells the belts you are looking for. I think they call them the Outback collection but I,m not sure. Check out the catalog or better yet go to one of their stores. Worth the trip even if they don't have th belt you want.
Good luck.

Jeans with watch pocket nekkid, pants of other designs, Ron Ryder Buckaroo pouch. It keeps the knife over on the side of the leg hem, and that keeps you from showing knife "erection" 300$s

I would be hesitant to do that with an exepensive knife. Even though it isn't going to get pinged up, there is stil going to be lint, and other pocket junk that can get in the crevaces.

The Case Peanut or small Stockman rides naked in my jeans watch pocket.

At work I wear slacks or khakis and I don't like my slippies getting dinged up by my keys or change. I am going to try out some of Mr. Ryder's knife leather:thumbup:.

thanks again, guys! i placed an order for two different pouch sheaths (pocket protector and buckaroo by ron ryder). i already have a pouch sheath with belt loop. i'd say i'll have more than enough options: back, front, belt, naked... :)

I use either a slip sheath for in the pocket protection or a belt sheath, when
I can find the time to make it, here's one I made for my folder last Christmas,

gary,

thank you very much for these pictures! your work is outstanding, i just visited your website. i suppose you can't make a sheath for a custom knife if you don't have it (i live in europe)?

best regards,
hans

Hans,
I received a belt sheath from Gary, designed to fit my William Henry Tom Brown model (Gary has the same knife, so he just fit the sheath to his).

On my belt, I prefer to carry my custom Terry Davis.
For a Pic, see post #47 in this thread:

It's the top knife in the picture.

Surprise, the knife fits perfectly and snugly in the sheath, with the sheath coming a little over the top of the shield. I keep meaning to put up a picture, but the time slips away....

Thanks but yes, a knife that I do not have I would not be able to make the sheath
but, the images may give you something to ask of someone local to make for you?
and Shaldag, that was some good fortune there!

Unless it's a vic, in a leather poch in the pocket.
Keeps pocket lint and dust away, and keeps the knife from getting scratched by coins or keys and such.
