How to change belt sander RPMs?

Hi All,

Got a cheap belt sander, should be here in a few days. I'm planing to use it for knives of course. I was wondering can I use some electrical device to control the RPM on that? As it is RPM is constantly 3000...

A variable frequency drive would work, I suppose.

Not sure how much these whistlers (they make sound) cost, though.

I just picked up one of these - seems to work okay for my cheap belt sander!
