btw, i checked those sites, and i can only find briwax with a white cover, not green. sorry, but am i missing something? maybe they changed the container? not having too much luck here i guess. and , the customer service line is closed on the briwax site, and i don't even see a "add to cart" function. thanks

hey Dan, i could be wrong, but i think the guy told me this one has toluene in it. would that hurt the blade or finish? this isn't working, having a lot of bad luck today. thanks for any help, and thanks for all the help so far.

STR method? A nearby stream, puddle, or water fountain and a tee shirt. :D

Seriously, some mineral oil can usually suffice to get off most sticky things on the blades from tape, to roofing tar and dried blood in my experience. I typically use my index finger being careful of the cutting edge as I rub it down in the blade. Then wipe my finger on a rag and do it again. Other oils would do the same thing but if you use the blade for food prep the mineral oil is your best one to use for wiping it down and then a soft clean rag, then a light coating of it to sheath it won't hurt for next time out. Dawn dish washing liquid is quite good also.

If its not a food prep knife any old can of motor oil with just a drop can clean the thing down good followed by a clean cloth and then a lot of guys use those silicone impregnated gun cleaning cloths also. Again though if its touching food prepared to eat its probably best to go with something that won't leave a taste. I hear tell some things can make you sick too but I've never gotten sick from it myself but if you have a sensitive pallet use some of the Dawn dish washing liquid after rubbing it with the oil and that should remove the oil. I've used it without water with good results for that but water is best.

i appreciate that. oh, and i called a couple places that carry the stuff, and they all said that the Briwax 2000 is the only stuff without that toluene. any advice on this stuff?

David.... either one will do just fine.

You are correct.......... Briwax 2000 is the only one that is toluene free.
Therefore, it will take a bit longer to "dry".

Either one will work just fine though...........
..........it will not make a "hill of beans" worth of difference. :) ;)

You ain't gonna' hurt this thing............. use the crap out of it.

Get some blue scotchbrite pads [WalMart/no soap or sponge... just the pads], scrub & wash it down with whatever you want.
Let it dry.
Soak it down real good in mineral oil ever now and then.
You & the knife will be "good to go" for a long time.... :)

thanks Chuck, that makes me feel better. I get a little crazy with these things sometimes, i know. hey, what kind of soap?...... ah, just messin with ya. thanks

He, no problem David. I know what you mean.....
This thing in 3V & Micarta is all but bulletproof though...... ;)

Have a Merry Christmas !!

Thanks for the info on the wax, never heard of it before.

Amazon UK do it so I'll pick some up next time I buy a book or dvd from them.
