I used white g10 for the first time this week and it shows everything. It looks Like stuff smeared around the pins. I stopped at 220 on the grinder and hand sanded to 400 then cleaned with wd40, alcohol, and soap/water. It looked like dirty bone when I was done and the guy I made it for liked it but it wasn't what I expected. I really want to try some blaze orange too but need to know how to make it look good. How do y'all clean g10 and micarta?

Sand or bead blasting works well, also the peel ply stuff from alpha knife supply has a layer that you keep on during all the working then peel off when your done keeping t all clean

Your sandpaper needs to be clean. One or two swipes, move to a fresh piece. 400 on g10 is pretty rough. Go higher/ 1200. You could also buff it, but that creates other smear issues. Clean buffs are needed.

Thanks for the quick replies. I will have to get some higher grit paper. This is the 30 knife I have completed with 12 more that will be done within the next week, Im starting to figure out the "use belts and sand paper like there free" but I've spent way more on sand paper than I'd ever think I would. I need to start buying it in bulk instead of at advanced auto. 8$ = 5 sheets

Dish soap in the bucket of sanding water will help break the water surface tension and let sanding particles and grit drop to the bottom of the bucket.

if it has white-ish patches, its from inconsistent sanding. make sure your handle is all the same color ( no whitish patches) before moving up in sandpaper grit.

I will usually buff it quickly after 220 to show all the imperfections. Then I hand sand to 600 before final buff.

What kind of buffing compound do y'all use? I have been using some green high gloss I've had for years ,but I stopped using it on micarta because it made it look dirty.

I use pink or white matchless on light micarta. Green for black and green with pretty clean results.
