how do you shape stacked leather handles?

How are the leather biscuits prep'd? (glued, epoxied?)

Is there a special way to compress them, or are they pressed at all?

I'm getting bored and want to try a mod soon. I couldn't find any mention of this work in the stickies.

Thanks.

First knife handle I ever made was a stacked leather handle. Looking back, I probably could have done better had I known about files. I cut the recangles, punched out a center 1/2"x1/4" and stacked them on the tang. Then I used rubber cement between each one and pressed as hard as I could without tools. In retrospect, I would have used a clamp to press them together. I shaped them on the belt sander then used leather waterproofing spray when I was done. Probably should have done something different here, but it worked. For the pommel I used 4 1/16" pins at the end of the stack to hold them pressed against the guard then I carved a tagua nut and glued onto the end of the tang.

Probably not the best way to do it, but that's how I did it 20 years ago. Guess what I'm going to try next. . . .
