This is a picture of a Loveless knife I like a lot.
Does anybody know how to do this braiding? Maybe a link to a 'how to'?

My good friend Gary's post that is linked to above will get ya covered on that. I'd just like to add a few things. That is called a "blood knot". Most of my knives will have a thong or lanyard and I "bleed" it twice but it can be done as many times as you have leather string. There is a special leathercrafter's tool called a bleeder that helps you cut the slots more consistently. It does not have to be supple soft leathers only, I often will bleed latigo too for certain projects. Thickness seems to be more critical than the tannage. To really finish it, give your blood knots a few taps with a smooth hammer or rub it with a hard stick.

It has always been called a "bleed knot" as far as I know. I have leather working books going back to the 50's with that designation, as well as new ones sgtill using it.

It is a really easy finish to any loop of leather, be it a concho strap, a dog leash, or a knife lanyard/strap.

A blood knot is a fishing line knot/bend. It is used to tie a leader to a line, especially in fly fishing.
