Im looking for a all around survival knife and ive narrowed it down to the steel heart variant. Can you hog heads help with one is best suited for that role. Thank guys.

Lots of great knives in the SH line. From the lightest to the heaviest you are looking at the following (off the top of my head)

- Skinny ASH
- ASH LE
- HOG ASH
- ZTSH
- SH Ergo
- SHSH
- FSH
- HHFSH
- HOGFSH
- NMFSH

All of them are great, just depends on how big you want. For me, thin is better than thick for a cutting knife and thick is better than thin for a chopping knife. Therefore I tend to like thinner knives except on very large knives. Heck, even then I like thin. :D

Out of that list my favorites are the ASH LE, the ZTSH, and the FSH. Your milage may vary.

Also one that could have some good tactical abilities. Thanks alot guys ive bought all my busses off your feedback and haven't regretted one of them.

For tactical I lean toward the SHe (ergo handle) again your mileage may vary...

I was/ am in the same boat. I ended up getting a custom shop SH variant thats just over 6". Good luck with your search. Now if such a thing was ever made as a nuclear meltdown fusion steel heart in around an 8in blade sign me up!

Maybe its just me but im not a fan of the choil on top and the slightly diff handle on the nmsfno. The FSH is my pick. Sorry for the hijack lol.

HHFSH is the one that hooked me into wanting a Busse. I'll definitely add one to my collection someday along with a HOGFSH.

The FSH is my pick too. This one…

I would like one thats a little longer 7 to 8 and not real thick I need to be able to slice for general camp tasks and also chop/baton. Thanks voxhog im looking at those now. Im just trying to see what you guys have and use for the task im looking for. Im looking for a knife I can take backpacking just by itself.

Ergo handled knives are very under-appreciated, and you can get some very good deals on them. Having said that, my choice for an all around Steel Heart would be an ASH-1.

3B2's are great too.

I like the nmsfno thats what got me looking at busse untill I saw sh's. But one day ill have a no too.

My old favorite was the FSH in this role but it has been replaced with the Fat ASH-1 as my go to survival type blade. Heavy enough to chop with if needed and, robust enough to pry anything you would need to if needed, and still small enough to do bushcraft type projects if needed. I find the size a lot less cumbersome to do finer tasks than a FSH but that's just me.

My "do it all" knife is the SFNO or Basic 7. 7" is a real sweet spot as it is the smallest knife that can, in a pinch, chop too. Others with more skill might be able to get away with a smaller chopper.

My FSH pairs with a smaller knife like an AD.

ASH-1 is one of my favorites. I like the thick .32 but don't care so much for the coatings so the double cut version is one of my favorites with some G10 handles. It might not have as long a blade as you want so you need a NMFSH as back up too.
