How To: Find Your Lost Knife

In the event that one misplaces a knife within a certain area (house), how would this person go about locating the lost blade so that worry can subside and slicing can continue? Specific places to look would be helpful. I have misplaced my Delica and am in desperate need of finding it. I have begun to set certain deadlines in my head, such as: "If I don't find the knife by the end of this week, I will order another one." But something holds me back, besides my income, and I don't want to give up hope. Please assist me in this time of weakness by offering your empirical (or hypothetical) advice.
Thanks.

If you were a Delica in your house where would you hide?

I'll bet it'll be in the last place you look, because only an idiot would find it and keep on looking. :D

Try looking on the table under that pile of papers...no, just left from there...

:)

Good luck!

Played this game often.:) Try under chairs, sofas etc.Clothes, pockets coats etc.Sometimes they just turn up.Like my first Delica back in the mid 90's,looked all over, then a couple weeks later there it was stuck in the roof of my garage.See I went up there to cut a piece off a big sheet of cardboard sitting in the rafters...

Look at the most unexpected place.
My ceramic steel was hiding in a cardboard container that my mom uses and covered with various other junk.

Check your laundry hamper, the washer and dryer and if its not in any of those places, by another one and it'll turn up.

The fastest method is to buy a new one and loose your reciept. The original usually turns up within hours of the loss of the reciept.

Alright. You're gonna need a dowsing rod, a global positioning system, a magnet, and night vision goggles....

Or perhaps just check your pockets again. But this time, check ALL the pockets, and dig your hand all the way to the bottom of the pockets. You might even need to frisk yourself. A strip search is probably not necessary, though.

I start by shaking down family members,"oh, I guess it just stuck it in my pocket:) :)

Losing a knife sucks. Try to remember where you were, what you were doing, and what you were wearing when you last remember having the knife. That might help you pinpoint where you lost it. You should also check under your car seats and inside your sofa; sometimes thing will slide between the back and seat and end up in the liner in the bottom of the sofa. Good luck. I hope you find your Delica.

The first thing I usually do is ask my wife where she put it. Once she gets over being indignant and protesting that I always blame her for hiding my stuff she usually can point me in the right direction.

If it were me, I'd check the hall closet. When my wife goes on a cleaning binge she'll gather all loose objects up and dump them in a basket in there.

I've had a lot of practice tracking down lost or misplaced knives lately. The first thing to do is to calm down. Getting excited for me means that I don't think as clearly or look as thoroughly. The second thing is to retrace your steps and think of the places you usually are. The knife will eventually turn up.

Thank you all for the advice. I have steadfastly searched all day. Tore my car apart, checked pockets, looked in my gun cabinet and in all my ammo cans, the kitchen, the backyard. From what I can gather, it is usually the least likely places that the knife turns up at, so I will begin scouring the nooks and crannies. I went to the mall today and truly felt "naked" without it. The last thing I remember cutting with the Delica was a bag of Famous Amos cookies, so maybe the Lord hid it to keep my weight down!:)

Places that have worked for me: Clothes hamper. Dryer. (Remember that thunking noise you heard on the last load?) Behind/beside the toilet (fell off my pants when taking care of business) Toolbox. Closet floor, under piles of my dirty clothes. The last weeks worth of clothes pockets. Around the computer (where you were playing with it while reading this forum) "Up high", TV bookshelf etc, especially if any kids have been around, thats where I put mine so they are "safe". And finally, the most oscure recesses in your car.

Check the couch cushions.....

My Kershaw Boa was MIA for about a month and finally found it there.(opened)

I know, know, what a schmuck!

...or just arms?

I know the feeling man, just yesterday I used my gerber to open a video then set it on the ground (which I never do) and walked away to forget it was there.

Before you buy a new one do a room by room sweep, then buy a new one. Even if you find it. :D

Being a frighteningly normal (or maybe abnormal depending on how you see me) male, that takes after my Grandfather in many ways...

I either have it in my pants, in my hand, in a dresser drawer, or in a cup (one of several!) on top of my dresser. Period. They cannot be any other place.

That said, I bought a second Vapor just in case mine ever walks off. A $20 knife that good WILL walk off one day.

That further said, my given to me 'Parker' SS folder is here on my desk to open CDROM packages and other stuff. And my Kershaw Chive is out in my truck clipped to the visor... as it is just so darn much fun to open it while driving!

I do lose stuff like Exacto blades and push pins with alarming regularity!!!!
