How To: Find Your Lost Knife

Maybe it's time to call the psychic hot
line or maybe it would be cheaper to buy a new one. This time go out and buy that custom you were looking at. After all you
gotta have a knife don't you?

Buy a different knife, this way if you find the other one...you have two.

One time I lost my Wenger Mountaineer....figured it slipped out of my pocket when I was sitting in a recliner and fell through it....reach in and around the chair, move the recliner out of the way...no knife. okkkkk

So I search other places in the house.....no knife.

Finally I go back the chair to watch some tv, put the recliner leg rest up.....watch some tv.....go to put it down and it jams! Guess what is stuck in it.......my knife.

IF it hadn't jammed, I would have probably NEVER found it... :)

...then you'll never lose it. Or: Check the freezer...lol :p

Last knife I lost was a Blackie Collins Buddy knife, found it two years later tied to my canoe, so just go to the last place you'ld look and it'll be there, if not just wait, it'll show up eventually.:D

Being a frighteningly normal (or maybe abnormal depending on how you see me) male, that takes after my Grandfather in many ways...

I either have it in my pants, in my hand, in a dresser drawer, or in a cup (one of several!) on top of my dresser. Period. They cannot be any other place.

That said, I bought a second Vapor just in case mine ever walks off. A $20 knife that good WILL walk off one day.

That further said, my given to me 'Parker' SS folder is here on my desk to open CDROM packages and other stuff. And my Kershaw Chive is out in my truck clipped to the visor... as it is just so darn much fun to open it while driving!

I do lose stuff like Exacto blades and push pins with alarming regularity!!!!

Joe, I know exactly what you mean. I am the same way with my knife, keys and pen. I also take after my grandfather. Once my grandparents were leaving to go somewhere and she asked him if he had his keys, to which he replied "I've got my pants on, don't I?"

Each of these are almost always in one of three places, if I'm dressed - my pocket, if I'm not - my dresser, or being used.

I still repeat that comment to my wife when she asks where any of these items are.

P.S. I am also the same way cheap stuff. I have been leaving my good pen at home lately since I have been doing more field work the last week of two. I only lost track of it temporarily once in the last two years, found it within a couple hours. I have been carrying a Pilot V-Ball the last three days and have lost two already.

Places I've found lost knives:

Under car seat
Behind car seat
In the couch
In my golf bag
Clothes hamper

Dont' you hate it when you lose things on your person!!! I have lost many a knife and pen in my cargo pockets and watch pockets. As far as losing a knife off of my person, I had a Sebenza fall out of my back pocket while sitting on my girlfriend's bro's couch. I nearly fainted when I felt my pocket...and...it was....gulp...empty...

After coming home from a 2 night camping trip and unpacking everything, i realized that before i left for the trip, i took my Black Chive (quite freakin new too!) out of my backpack and threw it on my bed. that was the last time i saw it!! i specifically remembered that i DID NOT want to bring it along with me since it was kinda small so i purposely left it at home! i looked everywhere for it...under my bed, in all my freakin bags, jacket pockets, behind furniture, even shining a light down my vent... nothing... i woke up earlier today just so i could catch my bro and sis before they left to ask (actually, more like interrogate) if they had seen, or worse, borrowed it... sigh... nothing.

what can you do??? WHAT CAN YOU DO?????????

*ahem*
i'm just really really really REALLY REALLY upset, it's the first knife i've ever lost, i feel like :barf:

hey BOK, if you're reading this, i'm so sorry about your loss, we can mourn together

Once you rule out the places that you would put it, you need to check the places where it could have slipped out of your pants. For me the number one place is anywhere I would sit or lie down. I have found that cushioned chairs and couches tend to grab things out of my pockets. Check around the cushions of any comfy chairs or couches you have sat on recently. Check your house first, but don't forget places that you have visited.

Next I would check around places that you might have reclined in your clothes. Anyplace near a TV is a likely spot. Usually you would spot your knife immediately if it didn't slip down into something or get bumped underneath something. Check in and under furniture near the TV. If you've gone to a ballgame or on a picnic you might have permanently lost something there.

The third place to look is anywhere you take off your clothes or place your clothes. Floors of bathrooms and closets are likely places. Things are often left under toilets. This is related to looking for things in clothes hampers and around laundry rooms. You may also lose things at clothing stores when you try something on.

I figure I'm entitled to a new knife if I can't find the old one in two weeks. I usually don't look really, really hard for a knife. The last time I did the full search pattern was when I lost the only set of keys left for my gun safe.
