How To Fix Crack in Hatchet Handle?

Thanks to everyone for the good info. Luckily I don't think my particular case is bad at all. Will most likely be very hard to pry up to get the glue in.

I forget where, but had read on another forum that a gentleman recommended drilling a small hole perpendicular to the crack, injecting "2-ton epoxy" mixed with acetone (so it will flow easier), and "pumped in" with a very small dowel or bamboo skewer [like a piston] to achieve a hydraulic effect to force the glue into the crack. The dowel or skewer is then left in place, cut off and sanded down. Makes sense I suppose.

You have to remember all the rules when repairing an axe handle. 1) You only have to please yourself! 2) Refer to rule 1). A few times I have used the 2-ton epoxy, a sure fix. You need to shave down what ever is sticking up. You may have to start with a file. Use a suitable grit water type sand paper. Stain if you like. I use a propane torch to keep with rule 1). Now is the most important part! Soak the head and handle in oil. The handle will swell up with oil just like it would with water. If you want the handle out, good luck. I broke off a titanium 1/8" drill bit backing it out. A torching will keep the oil in the handle.
