I have only heat treated two knives with this batch of fresh salt. I use the 50/50 mix of calcium and sodium chloride. I can't get myself to buy the minimum quantity of the retail stuff. So right now I should be O.K. for neutrality, but I have seen pitting/staining before I changed out the salts.
I habe some EDM graphite here in the shop, would it be a good practice to "float" some pieces on top of the molten salt to help keep the neutrality?
