How to get into knife modifications?

Thanks to all of you for the advice!!! I will post a pic tomorrow of the classic knife I restored.
 
I do most of my simple mods with a coping saw, files, belt sander, and sand paper. Sometimes I use a rockwell jigsaw and buffing wheel, but mostly that's it. Try to look at different knives you like, maybe they need to be restored, and maybe you see something you can make to your liking. Think any project through and go slow.

Here's a fun little mod I did on an inexpensive MTech knife.
