I started profiling my first knife, and I noticed the steel getting blue-brown marks from the heat. How am I supposed to get rid of these?

It's surface oxidation from overheating. You grind it off. That said, I do hope you haven't heat treated it yet. If you have, you've screwed up the temper on those overheated sections. If you haven't done your heat treatment yet, don't worry about it.

Either way, I'd suggest grinding with a bit of a lighter touch and dipping frequently in a bucket of water to keep things cool. After your heat treatment you MUST keep things cool or you will have destroyed all your hard work of heat treatment...

It is not an issue before heat treat............grind as hard as you want.

No problem before HT. Just ignore the colors. When hogging CPM154, I often turn the spine red.
