Well, i was camping with a few people and my girl in a very remote place. We hiked up all of our stuff, including coolers, tents, sleeping bags and all other big crap like that. I decided to bring no food and fish for myself. The lake we were near was littered with huge bass. So we caught a few and i decided id be the one to clean them up. I cleaned up one with two baby painter turtles in its stomach! So i got em all clean, cooked em and the knife sat like that for three days or so. I mean, i rinsed it in the water but to no avail. The knife is a frosts clipper. The rubber handle still has a faint smell of fish, and so does the sheath. I sprayed them both down with lysol and let it sit. the blade and plastic still kind of smell like fish. Any way to get the smell to go away?

Try soaking it in dilute bleach? Probably have to re-lube the knife afterwards but bleach should take out any remaining stank.

The smell will fade with time. Sorry, that's all I got. But that smell you got there is a badge of honour in these parts, no?

The same stuff Snoop Dog uses to do his shirt laundry......

Fresh lemon, squeeze it in half a cup of lukewarm water and rinse the knife thoroughly. Lemon is a great deodorizer.

Great tip. And don't forget to include some essential oils from the rind as that is from where much of its scent and flavour strength is derived.

The proper one is baking soda ! I've used it all my life [long time] for all kinds of things. The toothpaste may have worked since most have baking soda in them. Clothes too can cleaned of smells with some baking soda in the wash !

Vinegar and lemon juice.

It's a Mora knife. Why are you sniffing it?

Keep on using it and the smell will go away by itself.

Is the mora a carbon blade?

The recommendation for vinegar and lemon juice and other acidic liquids could result in rust (or a patina) if it is a carbon blade.

I would just wash it with hot water and dish soap and after a few days it should not be noticeable.

This is what I would recommend. Is there something wrong with patina?

I use my carbon KJE mora for this and when it stinks, i would wash it with detergent. sun it a few days it should be fine. If i really want the smell off fast, lemon / bleach would probably be my choice. Remember to scrub the area where the blade joins the handle.
