Hi guys, I’m fairly new to the knife game. I’ve been collecting for a few years now, in particular, Emerson, benchmades and Spyderco. I recently went to the Dallas blade show and it was awesome! Finally got to put my hands on higher end production knives and was instantly hooked. I came home with 2 hinderer xm’s, one being a 1 of 5 walnut and copper xm18 which I love.

Know I’m left wondering how to purchase these upper end production knives such as stider, Les George, hinderer, reeves etc when they sellout in hrs or days. I’m not computer savvy and I don’t do social media so my question is, what’s the best way to know when these knives are going to be released so I can get my hands on em without having to go to shows. Hoping some will share their secrets on getting the drip before the drop. Any help will be much appreciated

Thanks guys!

You need to get mildly computer savvy. Sign up for newsletters from several vendors who carry the knives you like and publish weekly “drops.” Be ready to pounce and buy. That’s all!

Thanks, I’m gonna handle that today, thanks for the advice.

It pains me to say it.. and I know most of the olds don't want to hear it, but.. social media is one of the best ways to stay up to date on drops these days, no two ways about it. Most of the popular makers and retailers have a presence on facebook and, especially it seems, the instagram.. they will often share news about drops and tips or clues for acquiring popular knives on their accounts. There's a lot of extraneous fluff associated with it, but if you make an account and curate your experience to mostly knife content, social media can be become a valid tool to acquire highly sought-after knives and a reasonably entertaining way to kill a few minutes of time throughout your day..

OP mentions Spyderco specifically.. the best way I've found to stay up to date on Spyderco drops is the Spyderco Forum (Spyderco's own forum, not the sub on BF). There is a member there who, through great personal effort and some internet wizardry, provides almost real-time availability updates on popular model drops.

A less social media related method would be going to a makers website (ie. Chris Reeve, Hinderer, etc.), looking for the "authorized dealers" section and then going to each indivdual dealer webpage and signing up for email notifications.. this can help, however many drops will be sold out before the dealer drop notification email is ever seen (or sent).. social media is still the best bet for getting in on a popular drop, imo.. and patience.. lots of patience haha.. good luck with it!

Most retailers do something similar - but we offer a few ways to get notified.

Email alerts - on our site go to the brand page of the brand you're interested in and click on "sign up for product alerts"
General social media announcement posts, facebook, instagram.
We have a facebook group called DLT Insiders where we give post heads up as well.

For a non-social media avenue we also put most drop releases on our DLT Drops page - https://www.dlttrading.com/dlt-drop-landing
On that same page we also have a post about the best ways to give yourself the best chance to succeed on a drop - just scroll down on that page below the products.

Thanks for the info, I take pride in not being involved with any social media. I try to stay away from things that are going to make me stare at my fone more but maybe I need to swallow some pride and like you said, minimize it to the knife community. I’m certainly going to look into it. I already went and joined newsletters on most of the larger sight but I will certainly target certain makers authorized dealers like you suggested
Thanks

Thanks, I really enjoy y’alls site and I’m on it often. I recently signed up for the newsletter but will definitely sign up for alerts on those particular brands I’m interested in Thanks for reaching out and I appreciate the tips!!

I always tried my best to stay clear from social media, but after missing so many drops, I opened an account on Instagram to chase drops. I hate this app with a passion but managed to snag a lot of limited knives that way.

And lets not forget, This page here on BF is social media......
So you already started swimming.
