How to get trademark "stamped" in blade?

Just curious on how in the world do you guy's get your name or trademark stamped into the blade? Thanks
 
Take a look at my earlier post on the <a href="http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum12/HTML/000615.html">Claiborne etching machine</a> and that will show you one way to do it.

Before the knife is heat treated, and after it has been polished and ground, heat up the section you want to stamp the mark into till it's bright red, then take a stamp and whomp it with a hammer into the steel.

That is, if you have a hardened steel stamp with the logo you want. Acualy, you can do this with cold anealed steel too.

Then when you go to do the final finishing, you polish off any rough corners that have been raised.

I tried a few of these, but decided I like the looks of an unmarked blade better.
 
You can make your own by doing simple file work (such as an asterisk) on the end of a hardenable piece of steel and stamp two or three in a cluster. I did this when I first started. In times of old ( I guess they still are) they were called touch marks.

Thank's, actually that was a pretty common sence question. Figured it was like stamping ID numbers. The etching process is interesting. Thanks again.
 
I would like to add to what Snickersnee said about stamping. When you heat up the section you are going to stamp it makes the steel more malleabel(spelling?) or soft to lessen the chance of stress risers or micro cracks around the stamped area. It's safer than marking an unheated blade.
I personally like the electro etch myself. No stress or cracks.

I use a marking methods etcher. Excellent results on both Carbon and damascus Steels. Ads in all of the major knife rags.
