I learn something about knives, sharpening, and steel with every visit with Jason.....tonight some flashlight talk too.

Thanks for coming over guys!!

 it looked better on that wee little camera screen, I think you said cheese at the wrong time :D

Thanks for having us Rick, a pleasure as always.

Well yeah, you could do that, but isn't that sort of the fast food mentality? Wouldn't you be better off learning to do it yourself? Why not buy an Edge Pro or something, at least you don't have to feed it... and it don't take up a chair either.

:D

:D
An edge pro costs around $200. A meal, a drink, and a beer costs much less:thumbup:.

Also, I only use my Edge Pro maybe once every 3 months.

What the heck. I know I haven't been around this forum that long. But always pictured knifenut1013 as a wise old sage sitting in front of his stones and strops making perfect mirror edges not has some young kid. Makes me feel even older than I am.

Funny, I pictured knife nut as an older guy too. I guess we can let the whipper snapper have his deserved glory. But, isn't that a paper wheel set up behind you? :D;)

I enjoy learning from someone better than me, so you are lucky to have KK there for you. However, you do need to cut your teeth and start sharpening.

I do enjoy paper wheels, as much as free hand ( I made some wedge blocks because I am not steady enough) and use a DMT Diasharp coarse mixed with 3 Spyderco ceramic med, fine and UF slabs, then paddle strop compressed leather. I find it very relaxing when all the family is asleep, and I can clean up my dull knives, or just prep them for their next rotation.

The paper wheels are handy when I need or want a quick edge, it makes for quick work, and a keen edge.

I'm 9 years older than my brother too

I'm surprised you guys thought I was so old, my age is in my profile :p

I don't think we should let little kids play with sharp things...

Come on back in about 30 years when you've gotten some 'age' on ya!
(I've got socks that are older then him!)

It warms my heart to see a nice young man with an honest to God stone in his hand while sharpening, and not some fancy gizmo that's not needed.

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I hope you fed him a real 4 course meal, looks like he's worth it.

I pictured Knifenut to be older as well. I like the fact he's about my age and a sharpening master. Maybe it won't take me another 20 years to get really good after all.

20 years to get good? That's older than I am.

Us young guys know more than you think. ;)

At the rate I'm improving, it might take that long. My new set
of DMTs should show up today. Maybe that
will help.

Yes now if Richard_J comes in at under 30 years old I'm just going to jump off a cliff after all my sharpening equipment goes first.

Really thanks to Knifenut for his valuable contributions to this community.

Try the paper wheels! That's the quick way to get your knife really sharp!

I'm on the phone with richard right now thanking him for his contributions to the forums...I just finished sharpening about a dozen knives on the paper wheels...first time using them today. Thanks to the paper wheels and Richard's help, I have more shaving sharp knives and less hair on my arms than I've ever had! I've tried a lot of other methods including diamonds...this is by far the fastest and easiest IMO. -Matt-
