How to get your knife REALLY sharp.

Try the paper wheels! That's the quick way to get your knife really sharp!

I'm on the phone with richard right now thanking him for his contributions to the forums...I just finished sharpening about a dozen knives on the paper wheels...first time using them today. Thanks to the paper wheels and Richard's help, I have more shaving sharp knives and less hair on my arms than I've ever had! I've tried a lot of other methods including diamonds...this is by far the fastest and easiest IMO. -Matt-

Are you his son?

How often will you need to sharpen a dozen knives at one time, and need to do so quickly?

In staying with my intention of the thread.......during a smoke break...what's the code again KN??......Jason and John lit up the night sky with their tiny little lights.....

"Us young guys know more than you think."

Agreed.
Lots of young guys are smart. Most of them aren't nearly as smart as they THINK they are, though.

Well, I was a lot smarter when I was knifenut's age too, :D
I don't mind learning from anybody who can teach me anything.

BTW, thanks for the tips about the DMT KN.

True bill, but at least some of us are still willing to learn and not think we know it all ;)

Have Knifenut1013 stop by and sharpen it for ya.

Had a nice visit tonight with Jason and his brother John.....

I learn something about knives, sharpening, and steel with every visit with Jason.....tonight some flashlight talk too.

Thanks for coming over guys!!

Jason is a world of knowledge and you are lucky to be so close to him. I wish I lived closer.....then I wouldn't have to send the knives, he could show show me how to do it my damn self!:D

Touche. But, that was not directed at you.

hopefully pretty often, since he is a knifemaker

Thank you! My point exactly...
A knife maker needs to sharpen a LOT of knives often, and sharpen them quickly. Either a maker or a professional sharpener. Not the home craftsman/hobbyist.

We have no need for speed or mass production. We aim for quality and the enjoyment of the sharpening process. The quiet Zen of knife sharpening. :D

Oooooooooooommmmmmmmmm.........

How true....I learn something about the art of knife sharpening every time we visit.
Something really sunk in this last time tho.....I think I may be getting the hang of it. I got a blade pretty sharp last night while watching the Tigers win one.

I feel a great sense of satisfaction free-handing to a sharp edge.

I own the mechanical and power tools as well, but I don't feel like I learn anything about knife sharpening while using them.

And this is related to the thread how?

The thread is titled "How to get your knife REALLY sharp." Nevermind that it mentions nothing in the original post about technique. If the OP didn't want folks posting about "How to get your knife REALLY sharp," maybe he should have titled the thread "A tribute to my buddy, Knifenut1013." :p
