I think most anyone's time is worth more than 1/2" of steel.Steel is expensive , what if that was DamasteelAnd you need inch thick drill
Angle grinder and several stroke with half round file will do same job ..............without waste of steel.

Your piece of steel will cost more then 500 $ in Damasteel . I can calculate how much will cost half inchI think most anyone's time is worth more than 1/2" of steel.
It's just how I would do it of course. I doubt that 1/2 of a 7/8" circle will be missed in the grand scheme of things.
That is very good pointPlus if you are making more than one you can line things up so that you can drill one hole and get two recesses out of the deal!
Ok smartypants, now ya gotta show us how....And if you like challenge .......try this

If I recall correctly, you used a piece of tube at an angle then cut if flush with the but and tang face of the scale. how did you get the recess in the scale?Well , I ask for it .............here ..... I spend half hour in searching my previous post

If you think on recess where is that steel part , I use tube from which I cut this steel , I just wrapped sandpaper and carefully sand to get as much I can symmetrical both scale... For recess on scale /for weight removal/ I use my Dremel with sanding drumshow did you get the recess in the scale?
