I have looked over the forums for any posts detailing the process of hiring a custom knife maker, or a list of contact information for knife makers, but I am not finding anything transparent and intuitive. Do we have something like this here?

I'm just trying to find out what I would do or where I would post if I want to commission a knife maker

Is recommend joining a Facebook group if the maker has one. Most makers have accounts here, so you can reach out that way. I just touched based with Todd Davison and he worked with me to build a custom knife with the specs I wanted. Great experience.

Just don't pay up front.

Go to services wanted section. Post what you want. Name specifics. Blade length, handle material, handle length, blade steel, blade type, handle type. Add a quick sketch. Wait for a couple of offers to come in. Research them. Do queries to see if there are any negative reviews here or other places.

Go to the for sale area and custom knife area. Look around. See what you like from different people. Send an email to a maker you're interested in outlining the previously mentioned knife specs and the price range you can manage.

A lot of makers don't do true customs because it's a pain in the butt.

Thanks Ahbiv, that's exactly what I am looking for. Bodog, no kidding, I saw the Dustin Turpin thread earlier today! Yikes!

You should have no problem on this forum brotha; )

You can post that you are looking for services .
Personally I would look through the custom makers section .
Find something you like in line with a price you are able to spend.

Then be polite , compliment on the makers work and just ask .

They'll let you know if they have a list or not.

Nighthaxan on here was nice enough to make me a custom version of his lime cutter :) so it pays to ask .

Good luck man

It's quite simple....find one that you like the work of....contact them and talk to them to see if they will/can do what you want.

It's almost like knifemakers are people!
