How To: How I anodized my Inkosi

Aluminum anodize requires chemicals such as sulfuric acid, lye...etc.
Electrochemical process whereas Ti anodize is electrical for the most part.
 
I had seen some ano done on Aluminum on JGrimsmo channel way back when he did manix scales for his bro.


EDIT: also technically if u need vinegar thats also a chemical of sorts (acidic) just like the acid u mention for Aluminum. Just a diff stronger acid. Also when u put the electricity tru the water there is a chemical process occuring there

Yeah man, there's probably a good dozen or so decent youtube vids I found on anodizing titanium and probably a good 4-5 dozen on anoing Aluminum. Really appreciate those guys who were selling their work, still taking the time to show the DIY guy how to do their own stuff even at the risk of lost business.

ehhh, the vinegar in this case is just acting as a conductor to allow electricity to flow between the titanium and the aluminum foil. You can use a mariad of different conductors for the titanium anno, where as in Aluminum you need specific chemicals to cause the reaction.
 
Alll being said i dont knoe much about ano just rhe basics from what i have read and seen on YT. The key in all this i think is having a good powersource that is consistent in its current.

I like it! It's hardly noticeable until it's next to one that is normal.
 
Great Info :) that's what these forums are intended for.
My CR knife warranty ended when I first put in my hand, and feel I'm responsible for anything I do to it.
That said.. I may have to try this to give my 21 year old Sebenza that's still going strong a refreshed look. :)

Out of curiosity - for those that have anodized their knives, was it done for the color effect or the altered material properties?

For me personally both. Not that I feared my CRK was going to rust on me, I may beat the crap out of my things, but I also try to take the best care of them possible so my 8 year old tools look like brand new tools. I personally love the increased corrosion protection combined with the sharpness it gives it bouncing off the blue lug.
 
Titanium corrodes? Like..Titanium oxide?

LOL, As I think you possibly know bhyde, ANY metal can rust, especially in the presence of salt water, even stainless steel IF it comes in contact with another dissimilar metal. So why do I care if I don't live on the beach? Sweat.

Titanium, bronze-phosphor and Steel all living together in harmony.

Truthfully chances are pretty good the knife is fine without it. But I like to tinker, especially when I can do it on the cheap :P
 
Ti becomes neutral with the oxide layer, which will happen naturally until the base metal is exposed again.
I think Ti becomes somewhat reactive to salts at higher temps..but it would take a bunch to get it there. You would have to worry more about higher temps in oxygen or nitrogen rich environment with Ti.
For the most part, the only parts you have to worry about on your Sebenza for corrosion is the steel..stainless or no, it reacts in time and exposure to things like sweat, acids in fruits..etc.

I like the anodize because of the colors you can get..but I guess if you are going to have an oxide..why not have it a color rather than a dull grey :)
