The spring on my brand-new Schrade Old Timer 3OT is too darned tight. To make sure, I also tested all my other lockblades. The 3OT is the tightest. It is difficult to close and I'm not carrying it because I really have to bear down on the lock release to close the blade. I have oiled the living daylights out of it, to no avail. What else can I possibly to remedy this?

I have loosened the spring on a verry cheap folding knife in the following manner.
I got a rubber expander sanding drum with sutable sanding sleeve for my drill press.
I sanded down the back of the knife allmost 1.5 mm.
That included thinning out of the spring aprox 1.0 mm.
Took 2 hours. Mainly because I stopped often to check spring tension and temperature.
Hand sanded with ever finer grits, to get the finish i wanted. One more hour.
Result was better then expected.
I thought that the plastic handles would look like crap, but they turned out A OK.
If this sounds like your kind of fun, go for it!
In monetary terms it is a NoGo.

edited to add: I rered your post and realised that you are talking about a lockback knife. This only works with a slippjoint. sorry!
