How To Make a "Hobo Leather" Sheath!

I made one similar for my dads old ruko-solingen buffalo skinner(like a 5in sharpfinger) 20 plus years ago with a pizza box and electrical tape camping and it still holds up well.
I have my grandpa's ancient f-dick cleaver and it is a beast. Also have a new 6in sticking knife from them that is the wife's favourite kitchen knife. The blue handled f-dicks have a seriously ergonomic handle.

Side note :
Nice to be back on the forums again, my wife got laid off forcing us to cancel cable/internet these past 3 months so I had to quit University and get back to work........just got internet yesterday again and no cable, netflix and project free tv for 15$ a month is affordable. Tired of paying 140 a month.

Good to see ya' back, man! I'd been wondering where you were at. Seriously the quality of the Friedrich Dick line has floored me. Their ProDynamic paring knife and ErgoGrip trimming knife have effectively relegated my Victorinox paring and chef's to "backup" duty. :p

Nice thread FortyTwoBlades :)

Thanks! :D

This is awesome... have at least two knives in mind for this, both kitchen knives. Will certainly give this a try.

Thanks for the info...I made one for that Bolo I got from you - (I used clear packing tape all over & then covered it with camo duct tape)

42blades,
Why not use the benefits of the strength of the duct tape, then cover that with the clear packing tape.

Just an added thought. Will be playing with this also.

Because the strength of packing tape is well more than enough. I've never once had a durability issue. And if I were to do that I'd reverse the order of tape you mentioned--the packing tape would still be the base layer. Duct tape doesn't stick as well to cardboard. However, if I really was concerned about durability I'd use use fiberglass-reinforced packing tape instead.

 Nice ideas for inexpensive sheaths. Somewhere, there is another discussion of duct tape sheaths with many of the same ideas. One option I have used when leather, vinyl and similar material is not readily available for knife and axe sheaths is old strips of carpeting held together by duct tape (it could also be sewn, I suppose).

Nice title. So, if cardboard is "hobo leather"- carpeting must be "yuppie leather". Right On.

Thanks! It's cheap (almost free!), fast, and effective. They also don't look half bad when all is said and done, at least for what they are. :p
