Ok, I really like the look of some of the sheaths in this thread. I especially like the couple that are posted by Robert. I'm not trying to "steal" any business away from this gentlemen but I was curious......How would I go about making something like this for myself?

I'm sorry if this seems like an obvious thing to some folks but there's so much info on the "net", you never know who/what to trust...except here. :)

Any help, links or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks so much for your time!!!

i think it could be done really simply be using some paracord to lash a cheap camera bag to a knife sheath. i havve never done this though, just a thought.

here's a cheapy/ghetto I did a little while back:

Here is my beater set up. Just a plain old Samsonite camera bag.
1 small (2"X3"X3/4") pouch
1 medium (3"X3#X1") pouch
1 large (3"X4"X1") pouch
1 XL (3"X6"X2") pouch
plus an additional (3"X6"X1") fold over storage
Lashed to my sheath with cord running top to bottom, and backed up with a double sided velcro strap. Easily removed if needed for pack storage, or waist/neck carry.

I don't think you need to worry about "stealing" business away from most of these guys. Let's just put that concern to rest.

First of all, they put an awful lot of work into their steel/leather/kydex/etc., meaning you'll often find these guys have waiting lists months or even years long. And people wait, because what they make is really THAT GOOD.

In addition, most of them have so much talent, humble talent, that they always answer technical questions fearlessly. I've never seen them say, "Sorry that's proprietary." They could, but it doesn't really ever happen, not that I've seen anyway.

Lastly, you never know when a question you ask will tap into something that a lot of people are thinking about. Then by asking a single question, you have just done a public service, because the consequent flood of comments will inevitably elicit that one or two guys in the middle of the sixth page who really really know something extremely authoritative and special. It's kind of like magic when that happens. Then you bookmark that thread, because it's so darn useful.

From some of the pics I've seen, I've thought about looking into a Spec Ops sheath that I seem to remember seeing that was full of MOLLE webbing and possibly looking into attaching a Maxpedition pouch of some sort it it.

One of the things I really like though is the "backing" that a couple of Robert's have along with the nice buckle. I've asked about price and I honestly can't afford, so I'm trying to figure out what way I can go.

I'd love to be able to just place my order for a sheath from him but at the moment, it's not possible.

Thanks to all for you comments and suggestions. Please keep them coming. My slow mind and weak brain cells need all the help they can get, hehe :D

Yeah, if you don't feel like spending the cost of the knife on a sheath, then I just lash a small pouch to my blade. I do this really, really often to make sure I keep an extra fire kit and/or SAK around. It also gives you some emergency cordage. Some examples:

The main reason I prefer attaching a pouch rather than buying a dedicated sheath is this way I can switch the package onto another knife. My blade moods are fickle so I never know what I'm gonna want to carry.

I Agree...What I carry from trip to trip changes with mood and weight/utility concerns. Back in the 80's (You know..When dinosaurs were on the earth!! lol!) Buck had a sheath for their "BuckMaster" that had slots to attach pouches, I had one and the idea stuck..I've used mil surplus first aid and compass sized ones and even used a SAW 100 Round pouch..That 1 was big enough for a decent sized survival kit and a sandwich when out on dayhunts. I would suggest that if you're going to usr anything bigger/wider than the sheath itself, put it on a drop leg strap and elastic strap it to your upper thigh. This will keep it from "flopping" or snagging on everything you pass by. Best to all Anrkst6973
