drop_point_hero I too set mine on a tissue sometimes to see if the oil has done its job.
Yeah it's a great way to see all of the blank gunk that comes out of the knife.

Yes, sounds like you might be applying to much oil in the first place. Very little oil is needed for the lubrication effect.
