how to prevent corrosion under cordwrap?

Just wondering, would a hot vinegar soak be enough to retard corrosion under a cordwrapped handle? I don't want to epoxy the cord. Spraying on a coating is of course an option, but I'm cramped for space, so don't want to get into anything too involved.

 I think both your ideas would work, especially both together. A spray bomb of ployurethane would protect a lot of tangs. You don't want poly on the blade though, if it's likely to be used for food. It would peel off pretty quick under use, anyway.

Vinegar soak ? that will attack the steel .Unless you're talking about first developing a 'patina' with vinegar ,then wrapping.

There's this pump spray on phosphoric acid stuff called "great stuff" at auto parts stores down here in FL- its a prep for painting bare metal and will convert light rust to a black no rust coating-then paint with black or stainless color appliance epoxy from lowes or home depot... give it a try- I'm not talking about naval jelly...

I've used rust converter before when painting autos. I didn't exactly love it, especially the smell, but I'll keep it in mind.
