Hey, I am an amateur knife maker just getting into the swing of how everything works I have made a few good knives and would like to know how to put serration in to a blade. I have a beginners shop so any quick and dirty tips would be appreciated.

Tape a chain saw file and a plain brass rod ( the same size as the file) together at the ends. File the first serration. Place the brass rod in that serration and file the next.....etc.

The easy way? send it to china they will serrate most anything.
just kidding Files or grinding stones

I use a Foredom and different size carbide burrs to do freehand staggered serrations or a single size burr for same size serrations. I seen a tool a knifemaker made where he stacked cutoff wheels and spacers on an arbor then shaped the cutoff wheels with a stone dresser to the shape he wanted. It worked really slick for very consistent serrated grinds.

I use an 8" metal cutting thin wheel on my electric motor. Slowly approach the blade part to be serrated, and let the wheel cut as deep as you want either straight or slanted serrrations. After this go to the belt sander and barely touch the serrations to get a sharp edge or use a file. Rey

Stacy. that's the smartest thing I've ever heard! LOL I never would have thought of that!

thank you all for the comments i have tried most of the ways posted and they worked great. some work better for diffrent things so i will prrobably continue to use all the methods described.

I know this post in a year or more old, but you can also use a tungsten carbide cutter in a dremel
