Anyone have some suggestions on how to remove blade coatings and not scratch the blade up to the point of ruining it? I have an Emerson Commander with the green blade coating and I was thinking of removing it and polishing the blade.

I removed the finish from a spec plus marin combat knife, here is how i did it. A) sand paper and steel wool, B) paint remopver or gas, C) tons of elbow grease. Ok here is how to do it. Soak the blade with the paint remover or gas, let set for a bit the take sand paper to it. repeat over and over again. soak the blade then rub with the paper, start witha coarse piece then work done to fine sand paper then onto steel wool. Worked great for me. Geoff.

I've heard that 3M pads work very well, faster than steel wool too. You can get them in most hardware stores; they're known as synthetic steel wool. Hope this helps.

I took the coating off my Steel Heart. It was very easy. All I used was a small flexible knife to scrape that epoxy off. One thing to watch is that the knife you use for scraping has a softer steel than the one you want to remove the coating from. Prevents you from scratching it.

i've done it a few ways. one is to take a cheap POS knife (c'mon, admit it. we've all got one) and scrape most of it off. then use a 3M scotchbrite pad and maybe some 0000 steel wool. makes it look real nice in a hurry. i would advise against sand paper, as you'll almost never get all the little scratches out. i learned the hard way on that. scraping with a POS knife is only necessary for epoxy paint type coatings. goos luck
