It's a Spydercard.

Looks like you could probably either sharpen it out or round the tip a bit. What were you doing that damaged it so?

I am buying it with the damage, I could ask the user how it happened.

It doesn't look to bad, you could send it to Spyderco and for a modest amount ($5-$10) they will probably be able to fully remove that, basically regrind the blade.

With a XC DMT stone you could probably do it yourself though.

The tip also looks bent which makes it a little harder. Look at the shadow. It can be ground off or rounded some but will probably end up looking quite a bit different than when new.

It's not a shadow, it's discoloration. Someone shorted a live wire with the tip.
It should file/sharpen out easily.

I have shorted out things before and it looked nothing like that picture? It looks like the tip is bent over some and the edge is bent even further and the metal tore a little bit.

I have fixed several with the belt sander. That only works if you have one though.:)

I have fixed some with the Tormek 2000, also easier if you have one. But before I had one, I made good use of a slim taper file.

It looks like the tip could be repaired with less metal removal if the bent portion was first carefully peened back to straight.

(It looks bent to me, rather than electrocuted, but all we have to go by is a single photo on a discussion board.)

It definitely looks to have been used to short something. I don't see any bend. It looks as though it got used to bridge a circuit and the arc eroded some of the cutting edge, as well as left a small carbon/ash deposit where the arc contacted the steel.

Soon I will have this blade in my hands and a better presentation of the damage.

The seller said they also bought it in this condition, and said maybe it was dropped, so I think it is bent, but the picture the seller posted is not showing the actual extent of the damage.

A spine shot of the tip would help see any bend. It will be interesting to see what you end up with when the shipment arrives.

Anyone want to make a bet? Even my girlfriend says it looks like someone stuck it in something and twisted it. Electricity would have blown a huge chunk out of that thin edge and it would be rounded off and not a little jagged tear. Maybe it should be added to a rorschach test since everyone sees something different?

OK, I'll weigh in...

It looks bent/twisted to me. OP's already indicated that the seller thinks it might've been dropped, so that would make sense.

I have a screwdriver that, at one time, had been damaged by short-circuit (to a car battery). It basically vaporized a chunk of the tip, and left that distinct 'blued' hue on the steel. This doesn't look like that to me...

Electricity, depending on the voltage and amperage, can do a lot of different things.
But, what would I know? I just repair knives.

Unless you were their when it happened then your right, electricity wouldn't bend the metal it would burn it away. I see no burnt metal.

Is it bent? Is it burnt? I feel like the kid at the mall staring at the magic eye posters for an hour and not being able to see anything for certain. My money is on the knife tip being bent. But please post another picture. The suspense is too much!
