How to say Tidioute?

This is correct. I've been to the town of Tidioute many times when I was a kid, an uncle used to have a camp there. This is how the locals said it.

This could have been my response. Right down to my uncle had a camp on the Alleghany in Tidioute.

Tiddy-oot is indeed current!:p

It might be current but is it correct? Heck, it was once current thinking to believe the Earth was flat; that did not make it correct.

I would like to hear from a company spokesperson for the definitive answer on how to pronounce Tidioute.

I have a little knowledge of First Nations languages, My Daughter much more so. Out of interest I have asked her to ask some of her fluent Mohawk friends what Their pronunciation is. Many First Nations languages dictate that an E at the end of a word is Hard. A protusion of land is two words so I'm thinking maybe tidi outay, likey ohtay, soft oh. Just my guess, my Daughter may be able to find out more from her linguist friends.

Best regards

Robin

That is a Company Spokesperson, or the next best thing!

I agree with Bob. The only "correct" pronunciation that matters is the pronunciation used by the company who makes the product and is using the name.

I think someone who lives in an appropriate State should simply pick up the phone and place a call to the town hall there and say to whoever answers... "how do you pronounce your town?"

:D

of course - might be an Englishman who answers and says in their best BBC; "Tidy-out-eh".

At least 3 or 4 people who live in the appropriate state, or close by, and have been there many times have spoken to this. A Company Spokesperson (and I'm referring to Waynorth) has spoken to this. Y'all call it whatever ya want.

I live in Confusion. Is that an appropriate state? :D

Yes,addylo that is a perfect state for this thread.Amazing how some folks get so worked up over such a trivial matter.

I thought this threa was done as soon as Charlie weighed in. I've always said same as him. Surprised it's still going, thought the conversation might have gotten onto some thing radically different. But apparently not.

Moose of becker forum showed me a Ka-bar film about Tidioute and like the cognascenti said ,tiddy. yoot.

I thought it was French. I've been pronouncing it "tid-whet" as in alouette. I stand corrected!

Tidi Oat is the way Bill said it on the phone to me when we were discussing my SFO.

It's certainly an appropriate state for you Neil, but not necessarily the appropriate State ;) :D

I haven't been able to sleep and my wife says I've been foaming at the mouth when I talk about it! Lol
