Hi all I am looking at getting a TOPS Steel Eagle. Hope he will make me a 9 1/2" bladed one instead of the 7" or 11". Anyways how do you sharpen a tanto style knife and are his blades ground on one side or two like a saber grind. Thanks Geoff.

Geoff....

Why not get the Anaconda 9 instead ???

Geoff they are ground on both sides, it is a hollow sabre grind. It is an easy blade shape to sharpen as it does not have any curves. Do it in two steps, the point and then the rest of the blade. The serrations are flat tips which you can sharpen right along with the rest of the blade. To get inside the grooves you will want a fine rod or maybe the Spyderco Sharpmaker, which I have not tried.

The Spyderco Sharpmaker is what I use on my tanto blades as well as all my blades and it works real nicely. Especially getting those serrations sharp, it works! I finish off the sharpening with jewelers rouge rubbed in leather to get that final edge, even on the tanto tip portion.
