I have a Benchmade Emerson CQC7 from the 90s, and I would really like to get it back to shaving sharp. I have a Gatco kit, but I really don't know how to use it on this kind of a blade. Can someone point me in the right direction?
the way i sharpen chisels and chisel ground knives is to first sharpen the bevel until i raise a burr, then lay the flat side of the blade down on a stone and lightly polish the back to remove the burr.
i sharpen chisel grinded blades free-handed and with the particular model, I think freehand sharpening is better. I just keep the cutting edge on the sharpener and follow it with my eye
rubbing the back of your knife on a stone will scratch the blade. if you dont want to scratch your blade i can send you pictures of how to do it so you wont scratch your blade. i make chisel grind knives and i just done one with a mirror finish. here is a video of it slicing newspaper like it was nothing. http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=43364157
