How to Shoot an Anvil 200 Feet in the Air

From what I understand, way back when every town had a blacksmith, the local blacksmiths used to do this during 4th of July celebrations.

My anvil was too hard to find and too expensive for me to want to do something like that with it. I might be willing to try it with Charlie's though.

At least you don't need a gun like pumpkin or bowling ball shooting !!
Somewhere out there is a video of officials trying to remove a stranded dead whale. They thought it would be easier to do it after explosives took it apart.Though spectators were far back one huge chunk of whale landed on someone's Cadillac !! I wonder how he explained it to the insurance man .

I've seen that video. The whale was stinking up the town so they used dynamite to blow it back into the ocean. They ended up blowing it the other way and all over the town. IIRC that chunk of rotting whale meat weighed over 200 lbs. Man, I iaughed so hard when the explosion went off and a curtain of whale parts began to rain down on the camera man. Hilarious.

I found the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIlKxaEIFDk

I would like to try something like that. But, I don't think my neighbors would like a 150# anvil coming through their roof. :eek:HEHEHEHEHE!!!

Glenn,

I told you, that you could shoot your eye out.:p
Be careful doing it.

...And people thought lawn darts were dangerous...

This reminds me of a time in the early 90's when I had learned about calculating time and gravity equations and I realized I could estimate the MPH of my bow and arrow by shooting it straight up and measuring the time it took to come back down. To my horror, I realized you can't freakin see an arrow going straight up or straight down at you, so I ran like hell. It hit the ground about 50 feet away, fortunately not into the top of my head.

Could you imagine what would happen if you somehow had an anvil land on your head?

I've done it and been around a few other avil shoots. Lot of fun!

Have spent too much time around some crazy blacksmiths

I wonder if they bounce when they hit or if they stick? I got to quit thinking about this or........

That looks like a hoot, if you could control the fall and do it with like 200 of em
in sequence you'd have one hell of a power hammer. I wonder what the foot pounds of energy at impact would be, as has been said above I gotta quit thinking about this.
