Recommendation? How to spend 10 grand for shop?

I agree with the rockwell hardness tester and dust collection whole-heartedly. I'd also say good shop lighting, if you don't already have it. I just bought some high color-rendering-index LED shop lights from American Green Lights, in the process of installing them.

Edit: With respect to grinders, the most highly-recommended ones are here seem to be Travis Wuertz's TW-90, Northridge grinders, and Reeder Product's grinders. I have the Reeder and a bunch of their accessories including their surface grinder attachment, and love their products and their customer service. I can't recommend them enough.

God dang , I hope for $500 for new stuff most of the time :D

Hardness tester is essential IMO, and you can pick a used one up for 1k and under. #1 on my want list, personally. I hate relying on hardness testing files

A tormek type sharpening grinder also sounds really good to me and I haven't seen it mentioned yet.
 
i have a shop but easy upgrade myb kiln wood saw metal lathe and add a grinder the sale of the old tools stil leabs me with a bunch of csh. im better tho your not in a 16x24 2 floor workshop. i could have built my start up shop for 10K total if i picked and looked or deals
