How to Spot a Strider Clone

Thanks for the critique. It's not a real Strider. It costs 130 dollars and has 440C steel, and came from a Chinese website.

i wouldn't trust a maker of a knockoff that it's really 440C.
If you think about it, around $130 brings you (when shopping around) a real Spyderco Military or Paramilitary. Proven, well designed knives, and you know that the steel is what's advertised.

Good point Dagon.

Further, I would point out that (perhaps) too many people compromise on the knife they buy only to later regret/doubt/wonder what could have been.

If you have never had a Strider and want to try one, a really good clone will never give you the experience you could have had....but it will guarantee you will be $140 lighter in the wallet. I suggest that if you buy a REAL Strider and if you do not like it, you can re-market it for a smaller loss than $140.

Perhaps you could re-market the clone...I am not sure what you might hope to get for it, or what the policies are for selling clones on various collector sites (many would frown on it even if you clearly stated what you were selling).

I'm not trusting the maker with anything, since it's not my knife. I was just relaying info from the customer. No way I'd buy one of these.

The "next batch" are supposed to use "D2" - no mention if it's German D2 or Chinese D2

the first batch was "D2". Some call it 440c Cobalt, not 440c.
Whatever these foreign producers say it is, it needs to be tested carefully.
If these are anything like the real deal, they are a lot more affordable. I personally feel good about somebody kicking ass in that overpriced segment .. : evil smilie:

Philipp
