How can I see the differences between an old plain edged military with a 440V blade and the new generation of 440V plain edged militaries? I am asking specifically about the differences that can be seen on the knife itself, as the store I am thinking about getting it from, does not save the box and accompanying literature (cards et.). I want to make sure I get a 'new' military, you know the one that everyone has been raving about.

Ok, first things first, i have a newer model military /ats-34 steel, in plain edge, only this and a other new model cpm440V w/serrations was available at my local Gun Store, i like plain edge better cause it works so great with a flat grind. Ok, some major points to point out, the newer models have a curved triangle clip, it's a normal clip, just curved slightly, and where the screws are, it's triangular, and in the middle is the pivot screw, this looks completely awesome. -Oh yeah, the new clips/models have 3 screws holding the clip, the older mod's have only 2. The newer mod's are screwed in from both sides of the handle, this is a major design/construction feat, it increases the whole handle big time, and there are posts inside the spacer that these screws go into, so there is no stripping. Hmmmm...Oh yeah, the finger groove before the edge has no grooves, the older mod's had grooves, the newer model has one liner, i'm not sure, but i think the older mod's had 2, but i can't remember, believe me, this is one strong friggin knife, the best utility blade i own, i said "BEST"....As a fighter, it works great, a really good slasher, plus, if you choke up on it, it is just the best whittler you will ever get, it carves better than my swiss army knives. I might have forgot alot about the new, and the old mod's, but trust me on this, even if a dude is selling the old model, in mint condition, for $30 dollars, don't buy it, save up for the newer model, it is totally better, i had a very bad experiance with the old that raised some hell a while back on this forum, but when my friend let me handle the newer model, i was blown away, it is just awesome, i can not give enough praise for this knife, it rocks. One last thing, i suggest you buy the cpm440V plain edge, the serrated is good, but the plain edge is just beautiful when put together with a nice flat grind, my next knife will be a cpm440 plain edge, i can't wait. Hope this helps....

Yep, the Military is definitely a winner. Sal and Michelle, when the RL versions of Military and Military Jr. come out, you should advertise the heck out of them! Maybe the Mil Jr. should get a name change to make it more acceptable to the masses....
