I am looking to start stabilizing wood but I am not sure what sort of vacuum I will need and what pressure or suction or how do they measure this? I see numbers on forums like 22 or 20 but I am not sure. What is the best kind of vacuum pump? I have many I have found for around $150 but I do not want to spend that if it is NOT what I need. Could someone give me a heads up on this? I have looked but no one makes a "Vacuum system for dummies" tutorial.
Questions I have about it are, does the vacuum have to run the whole time? or can i take it to where it needs to be then turn a valve off between the container and the vacuum and then turn the vacuum off? What type or pressure or suction is this measured in and what type of gauge do I need to do this? What containers are the best? If I could make a 5 Gallon container what would be the best to use and do i need a better pump for more volume?

There's a fair bit of info on here about home stabilizing. The kind of stabilized materials you get from a commercial outfit will be very different from what you can do at home. Try using the google site: feature to search BF for more info on home stabilizing.
