Hello all. I made this account simply to ask this question (I'll definitely use it to post more noobster* questions like these). Back to my question.
I've started to get interested in making a knife. I started by looking at Youtube. Now, from what I can tell, either a video starts with the blacksmith
cutting a knife-like shape out of steel (usually 01), or the he/she gets out a bar/cylinder and hammers it into a knife-like shape. How do these two types
of knife making differ? Is one better than the other?
Another question I have is what type of steel should I be using? 01 steel seems to be thoroughly used, but it seems that you can make a knife out of
most types of steel (I watched a Youtube video on a guy who turned a railroad spike into a dagger).
Finally, how can I get a respectable anvil? Do you necessarily have to have a horn?
If anyone could answer any of these questions, that would be great. Please do not be angry at my ignorance. Hopefully in the following months I will gain
more experience and knowledge.
Again, thank you.
