I'm relatively new to knives and I've already decided what I'm going to start collecting, but I haven't thought about how I'm going to store the knives. The knives that I'm getting are folders (if that helps). This is one thing that I haven't thought about and I need some help.

I have all my knives laying around the house no real storage areas other than drawers.

This is what I use, got the bins from Wal-mart and some foam/mat stuff like you'd put in a silverware drawer so they don't slide around. As my collection increases I just add another one, so far its one set for spydercos, one set for ZT & Benchmade and one for other random brands.

I use a Harbor Freight machinist's chest. Nice looking wood chest with felt lined drawers of varying size. Makes it easy to keep them sorted by type/size/brand/etc. It also locks and has a convenient carrying handle. Got it on sale for $79. Not cheap, but it works and looks good.

I really like the drawers idea, but I either end up displaying my knives, lined up, on my dresser or stuffing them into these candy bar tins I have (might post a pic of them).

I just lay them around randomly... I lose a couple and find a couple now and then.

I used to keep them in a dresser drawer lined with rubber matting but now I use a Pelican 1300 to store my high-end productions/customs. It keeps them VERY secure and can be pad locked. Has a handy carrying handle too. :D

storage for me isn't the issue....it's that I have 82 of them that I can't set down!

I use to have my knives sitting on my shelf until a small earthquake hit So Cal a few days ago, that was my wake up call. Now I put all of my knives in a gun case.

I watched a video on YouTube and a guy was storing his knives in a Pelican 1600.

I looked it up and It's a really nice looking chest. The price is a little to high though. Thanks for the suggestion.

If it's a Collection, opposed to a lot of users, keep them in the original boxes along with the original paperwork and accessories.

As far as where to store them, security is a big issue. Just ask around how many of us have had knives stolen. Look for a storage method that is:
- lockable
- not easily carried away
- perhaps fireproof, depending on the value of collection
- out of sight

I use Craftsman tool chests as an economical, convenient, semi-secure, and expandable solution.

The Pelican cases can be locked with two locks and they're waterproof, crushproof, and dust proof. They also keep moisture out of them and they have foam inside that you can pluck out for any size knife that you're willing to put in there. They also have a Pressure Equalization Valve. You can get them in different colors and get replacement foam for the inside.

I just user my dresser drawer and they are stacked up. I do worry about scratches but I haven't seen any yet. I do have rubbermaid drawers and padded cases. I think a cheap $5 tool case with foam lining would be great. Individual spacing and can see the knives from outside the box.

Pelican cases are indeed quality products. They're also easy to carry off so not only you lose all your knives, but a very expensive case as well. ;)
