how to tell if HEST is ESEE

Are you saying there were 2 productions of this Knife?

Not really...R.A.T changed their name a while back from R.A.T to ESEE. The only difference was the laser etching on the blade, nothing else. It was just a matter of changing the name on the blade.

ok you are saying during the run, mid run.... they changed the name on the blade?
from rat to esse?

Yes.

Nothing was done differently to the steel, heat treat, coating, accessories, handle, screws, packaging...just a matter of a simple name change in company.

A HEST that says RAT on it is just as good as one that says ESEE.

Well I got mine yesterday and it says esee on the opposite side of hest. Seems this is going to be a great day to day do everything knife. From whittlin wood to poppin the top on my beer.

You should see if it can whittle the top off your beer. ;)

They changed the name on all of thier blades. Not justthe hest.

Not to stir the pot, but after seeing all the delays with the hest/f, you really think they've got fixed blades on shelves already?

All HEST fixed blade knives at this time are the ones we had produced by Shon Rowen. They are all exactly the same except for the name change ie, RAT to ESEE. One or the other of those marks will appear on one side of the little pry bar end. All of these knives carry our lifetime, no questions asked warranty.

I don't think the final is in yet on who is going to produce more if any. TOPS is not a definite and ESEE will not make any more product for DPX. You should be able to pick one up still at several dealers. Mike

I got one from chestnut ridge last week to. I wanted to pop one before the ESEE's dry up cool little blade.

How tough is the pry bar part on the HEST. Realisticly is there any way I will break it just using it on little projects. Has anyone snapped there pry bar off yet. I suppose If I do I will just reprofile the handle protion and keep going.
