Hey all, I just got a new knife in a trade, but someone decided to use the extra stronge red threadlock, I was going to do some customizing, but i cant get any of the screws out without stripping or breaking the tip off of my torx. I need some expert help to get the thread lock to weakin. Its a para mili, with the g-10 slabs if that helps. Anyone around here got any tricks, thnks.

Heat it up to about 500 degrees. I know, because I had to do it recently myself. :)

As far as I know the red loctite is permanent. You could try heating the individual screws with a soldering iron to release the loctite- it's worth a try.

I would like to try all that but thats why i noted it has g-10 handles i dont know how it would hold up in heat or against corrosives. I think a soldering iron is my only shot when it comes to heat, at least it wouldnt come in contact with the hanlde. I think i will borrow one. Im just pissed cuz i wanted to modify the slabs tonight.

go to loctites website and typ in the product #. It will tell you if it is permenant or not. I think they also have something for breaking it loose.

You will be alright!

I am retarded!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you do not have a way to know the product #. anyhow their site will be helpful.

Thnks for the info, and for letting me know it will be alright:D . I get worked up over this kind of crap.

When I used to build golf clubs and used that stuff to hold in the lead powder, I did it this way:

Heat a 1/8" rod to cherry red and then hold it on the screw. When it smokes, it's ready to come out. Same with epoxy.

However, I don't know what it will do to the scales.......sorry

WD40 and acetone wont hurt G10. And it takes quite a bit of heat to burn it as well. You could try steaming it over a boiling tea kettle.

Soldering iron will definitely work. Just hold it on screw head for a few seconds and then try loosen, if they are still to tight just hold soldering iron on them until they can be loosened. G10 is quite heat resistant.

Loctite is often used for balisong pivots so they won't get loose, if all the suggestions here fail (hopfully not), try a search in that forum.

THAT WAS MY 1800TH POST :D

I would go with the heat to the screw head. most G-10 is rated for 300deg F or higher. Dont forget to use a piece of coat hanger or something like that to transfer the heat, you do not want to cook your screwdrivers. I have done that one time too many when I was younger! BTW I got my temp info from McMaster in their product descriptions.
