how to wear a katana at your wedding (advice)

Hi Chris-
Here is what my wife and I did for our wedding. It was only used to cut the cake, I didn't even think to carry it. Nothing about our wedding/reception was traditional, but it all worked out well. I was actually pretty surprised she was willing to go for it...

That said, Congratulations, and I hope everything goes well for you. I also hope you would post pics of your wedding blade for us all to admire.

Later,
Bill

*laughs*
no passing out at the later allowed.. *grins* my dad did blow out the unity candle on accident in my parents wedding.. 26 years later... still good

phillip, i totally hear where you are coming from. And your nose it right where it should be, so no worries. as for timing, it is more like a matter of months.. and while i would like to be ABLE to be married by such and such date, he isnt quite sure it is going to happen. so.. it is mroe of a "this is what i am going to work for, and this is what i want" and he has the option to okay or veto it. either way i get the girl, it just matters when. *grins* i'm not relaly worried that he if anything goes wrong he will blame me, but then i cant imagine a single thing that could go wrong.. other than having to wait longer.

annnnnnd.. one of the things that is AWESOME about grace is she really likes the idea of the groomsmen in swords, all my freinds are cool with it, the only people who might think it odd are her extended family and she doesnt care what they think anyway. if they take the time to roll themselves out of the couch and drive up here... i will be amazed. so it is more a matter of practicality.. and she really likes the idea of teh sash/obi

Bill, that is a really cool pic (and idea) the face of the lady with the walker is PRICELESS! and your wife seems to be enjoying herself.. that is a really cool idea.thanks for sharing!

thanks so much!

I'm getting married in June... (3rd time for both of us.. ah well lol ) she wants me to make her a tanto to cut her cake, I think I'm getting a bowie shaped groom's cake :D told her to make it damascus :p I'm making bowies for my groomsman gifts. I really need to get busy I reckon lol

Edited to add:

It's y'all's wedding, who's going to argue with a guy wearing a sword? Just make sure the wrapping and sen treatment match up with her colors and it'll all be good. FWIW, the picture of my maternal grandparent's wedding, the katana was worn through the obi ;)

You can always make bodice daggers for the bride and bridesmaids. That would even things out a mite.

That's a cool idea as gifts to your attendants but they aren't the most enjoyable thing to wear... I would venture to guess you guys have never worn a bridesmaid's dress or a bodice dagger...if you have do tell:D...they both rank quite low on the comfort scale:(

*laughs*
i would have to agree on the comfort thing.. they sounds painful. I think that the bridesmiads will be weaponless. and the groomsmen will be wearing production waks that they will get to take home as their gifts. i will prolly make mine.
what do you think?
~Chris

Neck knives for the bridesmaids with decorative sheaths and handles to go with their dresses. Or a decorative knife to go in their bra strap or something.

How about a garter dagger for the ladies, kind of old saloon style....

Sounds like a cool wedding already..Just think about the fathers delays as a longer planning time for a cooler wedding.

Good Luck

I was thinking Garter Derengers. If the men have swords the Women may want to bring a gun to that knife fight. LOL
congrats early on getting engaged. I know for my wedding I got to pick out absolutly nothing other than the groomsmen. My Mother-in-law, Mom, and everyone else explained to me that a girl starts to plan her wedding as soon as she can play wedding at a very early age. (Playing cinderella i guess) they also told me (Quietly to the side so my wife couldnt hear) that she had a lot of plans already. I sat down and asked her what she thought our wedding should look like before offering ideas and found out that she had indeed already planned the whole thing since her teen years I am guessing. So i sat back didnt say a word (Except to make my father wear and ascot and vest, I had never seen him dressed up). I agree with the earlier statement about it being her day. women plan it from childhood Men plan it from the time we aske them to marry us. I also think it is cool that she wants you to wear it, but sit down with her and ask her what she wants it to look like and then decide if you want to give input. It worked for me So far 16 Years and still going strong.

MAN that was a long babble i just did.
Congrats again.

Though I am not one to like following set patterns, I believe that for a wedding, if you want to wear a sword, you should stick to clothing that matches the sword. Wear a kimono of some sort for a katana. I don't know what would be a proper american sword and clothing combination other than military uniform...

Ummmm, You realize that this wedding was over three years ago. Always a good idea to look at the date when doing searches.

BTW, Chris and Gracie are well ( last I heard) . I still treasure the sword he made me as a trade for helping him make Gracie's ring.
