How useful would a rope saw be?

If you knew where you were going was going had been very rainy for days, would a ropesaw be handy to bring? It wouldn't be that tough to access high branches this way, and it doesn't take up much space. Just an idea I had, and I haven't heard of people using these in their pack gear.

Something like this:

But I'd probably want it to have a bit longer of a blade section....That one looks like it may be hard to keep the blade where you want it.

I have one called Pocket Chainsaw, it is about the size of a small can of shoe polish and weighs 5 ounces. I ditched the handles it came with figuing I can always rig up handles from branches.

I find them too gimmicke, give me a folding or bow saw anyday. For every cut you need resistance, too hard to use quickly over and over, chains have no pruning, notching or small branch capabilities. I would wager I could cut 2 to 3 times the wood with a folding or small bowsaw. I have ducttaped and tied folding saws to poles to access high branches with ease. My gerber folding saw weighs 4oz.
my 2 cents

I have a pocket chainsaw as well. I have found that this type of saw did not cut satisfactorily for me. The problem was not that the blade had trouble staying on one line, but rather the teeth simply did not cut fast enough. The blade of the pocket chainsaw is not like a chainsaw at all but rather like spikes. The saw the O.P. posted seems to have reshapenable chainsaw like teeth, these may work better then the pocket chainsaw. I think that this type of saw would be a greast addition to a pack for the woods bound if it cut well. However, there are far more models and designs of these saws then ones that work well, so I suspect quite a few people around here have felt like they have gotten burned on these types of saws in the past. This would explain why there is barely any chatter about them.
incidentally I have wondered this same question. ( mean about the lack of chatter)

Looks to work extremely well, according to the video, and the size makes for easy carry.
I carry a fiskars folding saw which is great but that does looks pretty cool.

i own a pocket chainsaw and find it fairly useful. there was one time a tree had fallen over on the road and was blocking my way up to school. cars started to pile up behind me and everyone was freaking out about getting up to class. a few people hoped out and started to try and break branches away and what not to clear the tree. i got out my pocket chainsaw from my hiking pack i keep in the trunk and cut a section of the tree away so that one lane was cleared.

hoped back in and drove up, much to the amazement of many on lookers wondering what the heck i was doing. one guy even asked me where he could buy one and how much they were.

for camping i dont think i've used it that often unless i was cutting up fairly large sections of wood. for the majority of the wood i saw i use a bahco folding saw.

they only run about 20 bux canadian so you might as well pick one up and see if you like it yourself.

cheers
