I hope I'm not biting off more than I can chew on this one.I showed one of my cable knives to a friend and he wants me to make one for him.He gave me a rough sketch.Oh no I took a custom order
The way I remember this style bowie the blade is pretty wide, the problem is by the time the cable is welded and flat its not wide enough for that style. All I have is 1" cable,to get a wider thicker billet can I stack cable or twist 2 peices together?? Or should I buy a peice of bigger cable?
Now that I looked at that picture again maybe I can forge alot more to shape to stretch it out?

1" cable can get very wide...if you make it thin enough :) If you don't have enough meat in it as-is, you can certainly double it over and weld it up again.

i should be able to get some in the 1.5 inch (i think) up to you if you need /want to try it its not clean but its up for grabs
i made my first forged knife out of it but i dont know if its HC or what
i heat treated it as 1084

Weld it up, cut and fold like this ///////\\\\\\\ and you will get a nice fishbone pattern and have plenty of stock wo work with.
