How Will the New Tariffs Impact Buck's Prices?

I wonder if all the American knives made in Asia will be as attractive as American knives made in America when they cost the same?
I gladly buy American only now. I accidentally bought a Kershaw Iridium made in China on accident. Thought it was made in Taiwan. This was about 2 years ago. I'm just not going to fund a country we're going to war with soon. So after I snapped the tip off the Iridium I bought a Taiwan made Ontario Rat 1. Those are my only 2 beaters. Out of the last 7 knives I bought 7 were American made.

Buck has an imported line for multiple reasons. One is to offer a low cost alternative to their large retail customers. Those customers demand it. They need it to maintain a retail presence in those stores. You want Buck to only make American knives? Then how do they make up for the decreased revenue and sales volume when their line is dropped from the store? It'll make the cost of American knives even higher. If you don't want to buy their imports, then don't. But quit bashing the company that is trying to do what they can to stay in business. I bet all the knives purchased by us Buck collectors combined doesn't even add up to the sales of even one of those large retailers.

I believe you will find domestic retailers will raise prices regardless of any tariff effect on their product line, why? Because they can
That's the thing... Retailers/wholesalers love a good excuse to justify increasing margins. Supply chain shortage? Everything goes up regardless if affected or not... Same with inflation being in the news so much.... It just gives them cover to inch prices on everything up a little.

They might lose the line of knives made in China because the tariffs will make them too expensive.

That's a significant loss of revenue and there might have to be an increase in prices on other knives to make up for it.

My take on this is that almost all these countries will be negotiating real soon. Their leaders are blowing off for the cameras now, but they know that our new tariffs are still only about half of what these parasites have been charging us for years.

Depends on whose information you use.

Vietnam, for example, charges less than two percent in tariffs.........not 90 percent.

How did our government come up with the fake 90 percent? Easy.

The "tariff" numbers on the chart for every country is trade deficit divided by trade exports. According to the Office of US Trade Representative, America imports from Vietnam is $136.6 billion and exports to Vietnam is $13.1 billion. The deficit is export minus imports. (13.1-136.6)/136.6 = -90%

The 90 percent number hasn't much to do with tariffs--it's about the fact that Vietnam sells us far more stuff than they buy from us--and we feel they need to be punished for not buying more.

Everybody has a special calculation of their own to make themselves look better.........but the 90% is simply a lie.

Is this still about Buck knives, because you really sound like you have more of an axe to grind here.
this^

MaxBob is correct, politics isn't allowed here in this forum...but it is in the pa forum on this site, but you have to be a paying member that supports this site to use it, so MaxBob can use it if he wanted to....you cannot meadowlark........

It's not politics unless it tells you how to vote.

I tend to dislike all the political parties equally and do not side with one over the other.

that is an overly simplistic view of the topic of politics. many are gonna disagree with you. that aside...... you diving into tariff accounting and pushing a narrative is nothing about Buck knife discussion and far more about talking politics and this forum isn't the place for it.

which side youre on or not on, is your personal business. we care here more about which Buck knife ya like or don't like and why....and things related to Buck as a company and it's products and history, etc. you can go talk political discussion on tariffs and calculations and who's lying or not etc in the pa forum. pony up 10 bucks and get a paid membership and have at it over there......

If it is not about Buck, take it somewhere else.

This is not the place to discuss tariffs in general.
