It would be good to keep a list with photo, price paid, date, and any special info ('Ganza, overrun, HOG acquired from, etc.), for insurance purposes at least. If you're super organized, you can update with current resale value. Current resale would be a good place to start for a Bladeforums sale, or knock a bit of to put it on the auction site. Perhaps keep a list of trusted HOGs or knife dealers who are knowledgeable enough to help with pricing, or might buy a collection outright.
Also a good idea to decide how to pass them on - a little at a time while you're alive, specific blades to specific people after you pass, auction the whole thing and distribute the money, let people pick (with fairness rules - pick one at a time, everyone gets an equal $ amount according to original purchase price, certain % of the collection per person, whatever - it's easy for people to hurt each other's feelings in these matters).
