How would you have handled this?

i know exactly where you are coming from. whenever someone happens to see the CRKT First Strike stuck in my boot or my Kershaw Leek in my pocket or the Kershaw Military Boot Knife hanging from my shoulder (and no matter how well i conceal them, someone always manages to see) i inevitably get a comment very much like the one you recieved from the tragically misinformed coffee technician. it bothers me because i dont tease the other people at my school about video games or drinking (their hobbies and main interests) so i shouldnt be berated for mine. i usually follow up their snide remark with one about severing a major artery rather than a stab, which may or may not shut them up, but it makes me feel better. some people just dont realize that they sound stupid when they are attempting humor. thats the world we live in and no one is going to change me any time soon.

One thing we have to realize is that if we are going to have a hobby that is out of the norm/dress against the norm of society, we will receive remarks. That is just how life is. You can aways try to inform someone or correct their misconceptions, but the best way to combat snide comments is not to respond to them, or respond in a positive and polite manner.

I will have to check out that magazine at Barnes and Noble! Thanks!

A nice reply could have been, "I hadn't planned on it, but you know what they used to say in Rome....`Excrementi Occurum.' " That's "mock" latin for "Sh#t Happens."

When my daughter was taking latin, she showed me me an interesting group of L. prefixes/suffixes that would make an interesting motto.."Cys, Cide, Cid" (Cut, Kill, Destroy).
