How'd I end up with this?

I'm sure others here have had this experience before but it's a new one for me. I normally know what I'm looking for before ordering a new knife. A GEC #62 Easy Pocket Congress was the intended purchase and I found myself perusing some dealer websites trying to decide between the Interior Ram Horn or Raisin Jig Bone scales. I'm not sure what happened, but somehow this one weaseled its way into my cart instead.:confused::confused:

:D
The scales are Coconut Palm.

The wood isn't quite as dark as it looks in the pics. I probably needed a little better lighting. Here's a close up that shows it a little clearer.

Overall I'm very impressed with this knife. The pattern feels great in the hand and has a good balance of size and weight. The only downside about getting it is that I still want a #62.

Are you bragging or camplaining?:)
That looks like a great knife but I'd love to know what happened to the other one.

Send it to me. I'll take care of it. :)

You can just take a back step there Dan, you have a beauty coming your way already :D

That is a very handsome looking knife, I think they hit the nail on the head with that one ...very cool knife.

No complaints about this one at all, Mack.;) It was just an unusual experience for me. As far as the other one, it never made it's way into the cart. I knew the forum knife order was getting close and I didn't want to go overboard with too many at once. I'll probably still get one at some point down the road.

Thanks for the offer but I'm going to respectfully decline. I wouldn't want it to keep you from giving that Erickson a lot of use.:D Congrats on winning that by the way.

I have been eyeballing the Coconut Palm scaled knives too. Good looking stuff.

I didn't even know these were available until I saw them at the dealer's website. I don't always keep up with the latest releases and there hasn't been much talk about them around here that I've seen. The Palm has a unique look to it. It doesn't show in the photo, but the dark streaks are slightly glossier than the lighter brown and they really stand out when light hits it at a certain angle.

Now I want one even more.:)

Thanks, and Duncan is right, my cup runneth over!

Nice grain on that wood, didn't know they offered such material. The Dogleg is a handsome pattern and the four pins and that shield look absolutely right, not surprised you opted for it. Mind you, I've yet to see a picture of that Raisin Bone, could be tasty........

Sweet. That knife is just gorgeous. I want to know the dealer (I'll PM) but I also need some winning lottery numbers if you have those too!

That's a dogleg jack, correct?

Found it!

Great looking Serpintine Jack??I love the cross cut or quartersawn palmwood.Stabilized its durable as heck and the beaded look and texture is beautiful.

Dan, that palm has a lot of character in it. I have seen it in block form but never as a finished scale. WOW! Looks absolutely fantastic! That close up shot really shows it off.
Thanks,
Dan

I snapped a couple more pics outside today that show the color of the scales better. It's a #56 Dogleg and the only other pattern that I'm aware of that GEC has used the Coconut Palm on is the Courthouse Whittler.

Dan,

I was just looking at your recent photos above when my wife walked in the room and said "Oh man, that's pretty!"

She's right. Those scales are sweet!

Danny, from a fellow St. Louisan, great choice. I really like the black palm wood.

It looks like GEC is using the hot dog shield on all their newer releases that are limited runs.
I would guess they made fewer than a dozen of these, maybe far fewer.

I realy love the #56 dogleg jack it has to be IMO one of the more practical patterns for someone who plans to carry a slip joint as an EDC I realy love mine but wish sometimes I had a spear point blade instead of the clip point blade.

Thanks Jeff. It wouldn't surprise me if that was the case. Mike had them marked as a short run at his site and I couldn't find it listed in GEC's new releases either. That's why I was surprised to see it.

You're welcome, Rick.;):D

I love a nice clip blade and was close to buying one with Frontier Bone scales. Then I found out the spear blade models would be a barehead version so I decided to wait. I'm glad I held off for a little while.
